Individuals, Children, and Families

We provide each and every client with a unique therapeutic experience. Upon contacting North Simcoe Therapy Network, each client is greeted with respectful, supportive and helpful services that cater to each individual’s needs – our emphasis is on client-centred care.

We strive to provide the best possible care to individuals and their families that seek our services. We offer individual counselling, assessment and referral services for children ages 6 and up.

We will do our best to support anyone that contacts our organization in receiving the services they are in need of; even if that involves bringing in someone that can offer that service or finding appropriate services outside of our group.

Groups and workshops are available by trained and experienced clinicians for youths and adults at significantly reduced rates. Our CBT group therapy is typically covered by OHIP.

Mindfulness Workshops

Mindfulness is paying attention to the present moment, on purpose and without judgment. It has been found to be effective at addressing a variety of concerns ranging from severe mental health issues to mild every day stressors.

NSTN’s Mindfulness Group offers elements of Jon Kabat Zin’s Mindfulness-based Stress Reduction (MBSR) program, Marsha Linehan’s DBT Core Mindfulness Skills as well as opportunities to learn and practice mindfulness as it applies to your specific concerns.

Contrary to many people’s understanding of mindfulness, it does not require quiet meditation – although this can be part of an individual’s mindfulness practice – it requires only a desire to live life in this one moment while letting go of stress. We often rely on unhealthy behaviors that serve the same purpose but have toxic consequences – such as substance use, over eating, gambling, sex, avoidance or other forms of self harm. Mindfulness is a healthy alternative to this.

In this group we will begin to learn: how to pay attention to our thoughts, feelings and bodies; effective ways to allow things to be as they are without creating unnecessary suffering in response to them; and to find ways to be grateful for exactly where we are and what we are doing no matter what the situation, while paving the way for meaningful and purposeful futures.

This group is appropriate for both beginners to mindfulness as well as those with some experience.

Self Love Group

Self Love / Self Compassion / Self Acceptance – learning to look at ourselves with unconditional positive regard is arguably the answer to many, if not all, of our problems. Many of us have not or do not receive the love, compassion and acceptance that we deeply desire from external sources – parents, spouses, children, friends, work – and this results in feelings of isolation and often an enormous amount of suffering. What if we could tap into a limitless supply of love right where we are without reliance on anyone or anything outside of ourselves? What if once we discovered this unbound love from within, external sources started to almost miraculously start loving us with the same limitless intensity? This is what the Self Love group is all about. Finding ways to first give ourselves permission to accept and love ourselves unconditionally and then learning how to tap into this love.

Peer Support Group

This group provides an opportunity for people that have struggled with Mental Health issues and have participated in treatments, to give back. Congratulations to John Dumais, Peer Support Volunteer at NSTN for winning a prestigious Inspiration Award from the Centre of Excellence in the UK. He was among hundreds of applicants from around the world.
